Director of Business Development – PHabLAB

The Director of Business Development (DBD) leads the development of new business for the for the PHabLAB division. The DBD will own identifying and nurturing strategic client relationships with a focus on selling PHabLAB makerspace solutions to the K-12, junior college, and college market. The DBD will oversee business development initiatives within, and outside, of existing PHabLAB accounts and must be closely aligned with our regional sales team, dealers, and the Managing Director of the PHabLAB division.

Position Key Functions:

  • Identifies and makes initial contact with  perspective customers to establish productive and collaborative relationships with customer decision-makers. Will influence perspective customers by using consultative selling skills to discover, diagnose, and solidify their needs and propose and deliver turn-key makerspace solutions.
  • By partnering with Marketing, develops client contacts through trade shows and marketing campaigns and sets up face-to-face meetings to position PHabLAB and advances the sales process.
  • Develops and leads the implementation of strategies to win opportunities with regional sales representatives.
  • After the project has been won via a program agreement, the DBD leads the seamless transition of the opportunity to ongoing account management by partnering with the Managing Director (this is post-consulting, and prior to design and quoting).
  • Maintains Microsoft Dynamics (CRM) funnel information so regional sales representatives and the Managing Director can accurately complete monthly forecasts of expected sales volume by account and region.
  • Interacts with clients to win business in existing dealer-led accounts and in some cases, takes the lead in winning business via a direct sale.

  • Can leverage broad and comprehensive business development practices to grow the division by selling PHabLAB products and services.
  • Is energetic with a keen bias for execution, speed, and accomplishment.
  • Has understanding of applicable product standards and certifications (eg: Common Core, NGSS, NC3, etc.)


  • Bachelor of Business or related or Bachelor of Engineering, with 10+ year’s related sales experience.
  • Good communication and project management skills, team player and ability to multi-task required.
  • Understanding of the Makerspace Movement, STEM/STEAM education, additive/subtractive manufacturing, 3D CAD modeling, 3D printing
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
