Why does Palmer Hamilton use particle board?
We use Medium Density Fibreboard, commonly known as MDF, which is an engineered wood product. It’s made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into fine wood fibers. These fibers are mixed with wax and resin and then pressed under high temperature and pressure to create dense, stable panels. MDF is made from finely ground wood fibers, while particle board is made from larger wood chips and shavings.

Advantages

Cost-Effective: MDF is generally less expensive than solid wood and other engineered wood products.

Smooth Surface: The surface of MDF is smooth, allowing for easy finishing with veneers or laminates, which enhances its appearance and reduces manufacturing defects.  Use of plywood in laminated boards requires that the plywood has a smooth surface, which further drives cost.

Eco-Friendly: Made from recycled wood materials, MDF is considered a more sustainable option compared to solid wood

Uniform Density:  Unlike plywood, MDF has no grain and is uniform throughout, which helps in reducing warping and inconsistencies.

Apologies, but unfortunately, no. You can choose your laminate from either Wilsonart® or Formica® and request samples directly from them. For guidance on laminate surface pricing, please refer to our website—and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about your selection.

We recommend using patterned laminates instead of solid ones, as solid laminates tend to show scratches more easily, while patterned options are better at hiding them. This recommendation is based on insights we’ve gained through many years of experience..

A logo laminate is not simply a sticker placed on the surface. Our high-quality laminates are integrated into the sheet during production and sealed beneath a protective coating to ensure long-lasting durability. We’re often asked if we can supply logo tops for tables made by other manufacturers, but unfortunately, we cannot. Doing so would void their warranty, and our logo tops are precisely sized to fit our specific frames.
