Wall Pocket Tables in Action
Introducing Wall Pocket Tables
Palmer Hamilton built Wall Pockets for the schools where the dining room is more than an eating space and used for multiple purposes. This wall mounted cafeteria table system stores tables and benches completely into the wall in as little as 6 inches of depth, converting the full floor space of the cafeteria into open area for physical education, assemblies, community events, and every other program that shares the space. When you specify Palmer Hamilton Wall Pockets, you are specifying a system built from the ground up for safety, solid construction, and the kind of long term performance that a permanent installation in a busy school environment demands. Models hold 1, 2, 3 or 4 table/bench extensions for small to large space needs.
Details
Palmer Hamilton Wall Pockets are designed to disappear when they are not needed and to deploy quickly and securely when they are. The system stores tables and benches in a fully recessed or against the wall configuration, with a single 14 foot table and bench system requiring only 6 inches of wall depth for storage. Quad systems that store four sets of tables and benches require as little as 22.75 inches of total wall depth, recovering virtually the entire floor area of the cafeteria for other uses. Tables and benches are detachable from and interchangeable in the steel pockets, and the system is available in single, double, triple, and quad configurations seating from 16 to 80 people across a wall run of 14 to 56 feet.
Safety is engineered into our Wall Pocket system with five independent locking mechanisms that work together to keep tables and benches secure throughout every phase of storage and deployment. Our locking mechanism secures tables and benches automatically when folded into the pocket for storage. Two sets of 1/2 inch diameter solid steel Track-Lock® pins secure tables and benches in the stored position and simplify release. A Mullion Lock with key secures tables and benches in storage to prevent unauthorized use. Field adjustable down latches secure tables and benches in the deployed position even on floors with varying conditions. Compression springs counterbalance the table and bench in any position throughout the deployment and storage cycle. This five point system gives administrators, facilities teams, and inspection authorities the documented safety assurance that a permanent built in installation requires.
Palmer Hamilton Wall Pockets are built from the materials and to the construction standards that a permanent installation in a school environment demands for years of service. The steel pocket structure is all welded 16 gauge steel with 11 gauge sill and top plates, finished with a phosphate coating for rust prevention and a sprayed on epoxy paint with hardener that matches Palmer Hamilton’s standard table frame colors. All welding complies with American Welding Society codes, including AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code for Steel and AWS D1.3 for Sheet Steel. Tabletop and bench surfaces are constructed from three quarter inch resin wood with ANSI A208.1 M3 grade compliance, surfaced with GP 335 vertical grade plastic laminate, and edged with EdgeGuard™ bonded polyurea for a moisture resistant, tamper resistant, self healing edge that will not develop food traps or peel over years of institutional use. The Wall Pocket system has earned the UL GREENGUARD Gold Indoor Air Quality Certification, confirming low chemical emissions for the indoor environments where students eat and spend their school days. Palmer Hamilton provides expert specification assistance and works directly with your team to ensure that wall pocket assemblies are perfectly fitted to your space, because an installation that serves students and communities for decades deserves that level of care.
Benefits
Complete Floor Recovery When Tables Are Stored
A single 14 foot Palmer Hamilton Wall Pocket table and bench system stores in just 6 inches of wall depth, and a four set quad configuration stores in as little as 22.75 inches, returning effectively the entire cafeteria floor to open use for physical education, assemblies, testing, community events, or any other program the school schedules in the space. No other cafeteria table system recovers as much usable floor area as a wall pocket installation.
A Five-Point Safety System
Our Wall Pockets use five independent locking mechanisms, including automatic Z Lock, solid steel Track-Lock® pins, keyed Mullion Locks, field adjustable down latches, and counterbalancing compression springs, to secure tables and benches in storage, in transit, and in use even on floors with varying conditions. This is the level of engineered safety assurance that school administrators, liability conscious procurement teams, and building inspectors expect from a permanent built in installation.
A Professional Finished Installation That Lasts
Palmer Hamilton Wall Pockets fold neatly into the wall with a professional, finished appearance that can blend into the room’s existing aesthetic or serve as a design feature with custom laminate on table and bench tops. The all welded 16-gauge steel pocket structure with phosphate coating and epoxy paint is built for decades of institutional use, and EdgeGuard™ bonded polyurea edges protect every table and bench surface from moisture, food traps, and peeling throughout the life of the installation.
Features
Track-Lock® Five Point Safety Locking System
The Palmer Hamilton Wall Pocket system uses two sets of 1/2 inch diameter solid steel Track-Lock® pins along with Z Lock, Mullion Lock, and field adjustable down latches to create a five-point locking system that secures tables and benches in storage and in use through every cycle of operation. The bottom set of Track-Lock® pins is manually activated by a remote handle near the center of each table and bench, and the second set engages automatically while closing the table and bench.
Retro Fit and Custom Configuration Capability
Palmer Hamilton Wall Pockets are available for standard 14-foot table and bench models, and Retro Fit Systems are available for older and other brand table and bench models already installed in an existing pocket. The system accommodates single through quad pocket configurations, fully recessed and against the wall installations, and a wide range of accessories to handle virtually any new construction or renovation situation in existing wall pocket openings.
EdgeGuard™ Edge Treatment
Every Palmer Hamilton Wall Pocket table and bench is edged with EdgeGuard™ bonded polyurea, providing a moisture resistant, tamper resistant, self-healing edge that eliminates unsanitary food traps and resists peeling and chipping through years of student use. The edge is smooth and free of lock holes, consistent with the Wall Pocket specification for surfaces that are tamper resistant and easy to keep clean in a high use institutional environment.
